Vandikaran Chutney / Kara Chutney

Ingredients
  • Tomatoes - 3 roughly chopped
  • Garlic - small - 20 big - 15
  • Tamarind - Small Gooseberry size
  • Dry red chilies - 5 ( if you like more spice add more red chilies)
  • Chana Dal - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry Leaves - 1 string
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsp
Method
  • In a kadai add oil, once oil heats up add red chilies and fry it with changing it's color and keep it aside.
  • Now add chana dal and fry it until golden brown, now add garlic and fry it until raw smell of garlic goes away.
  • Now add tomatoes, tamarind and saute until tomatoes become mushy. Switch off the flame and let cool completely.
  • Now in the mixer add red chilies and saute items, salt and grind it fine paste.
  • In same kadai add some oil and tamper mustard and curry leaves, add to chutney.
  • Serve this chutney with Idli, Dosa, Rava Dosa, etc.
