Sweet Potato Chutney - South Indian Recipe

Ingredients:
  • Medium Size Sweet Potato - 1
  • Medium Size Onion - 1 (coarsely chopped)
  • Tomato - 1 (coarsely chopped)
  • Clinatro (Coriander leaves) - few
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Tamarind - small Gooseberry (Amla) Size
  • Shredded coconut - 1/8 cup
  • Coriander seed - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 2 tsp
  • Channa Dal - 2 tsp
  • Pepper Corn - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin Seed - 1 tsp
  • Red chilies  - 2 or 3 seeds removed
  • Oil - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
For Seasoning:
  • Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Oil - 1/4 tsp
Method:
  • Cut sweet potato into halves and boil it in pressure cooker. Leave up to 2 to 3 whistles.
  • After boiling, peel the skin and cut sweet potato into pieces.
  • In a sauce pan, add oil and heat it. Then add Urad Dal, Channa Dal, cumin seed, coriander seed, pepper corn and red chilies. Fry until Urad Dal and Channa Dal turn to light brown.
  • Add curry leaves, clinatro, onion and fry until onion is tender. Then add tomato and fry until it slightly shrinks.
  • Add chopped sweet potato, coconut and tamarind. Fry for 2 mins. Allow it to cool.
  • In the mixer grinder, add all the fried ingredients, salt and grind smoothly.
  • Seasoning: In a small pan, add oil and heat it. Add 'Seasoning' ingredients and fry them. Add it to chutney.
  • This healthy chutney can be served with dosa, idly, chapati, hot rice, etc...
